Norwich band Ask Lydia, describe themselves as an “enthusiastic indie quartet” and quite rightly so as it definitely shows through their music. Their influences range from Joy Division, to the Vampire Weekend to Bombay Bicycle Club. After gaining success with local audiences, Ask Lydia are gearing up for a nationwide tour in the summer. American comedy trio consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone collectively known as The Lonely Island are responsible for the hilarious Saturday Night Live digital shorts such as ‘Natalie’s Rap’, ‘Dick In A Box’, ‘Jizz In My Pants’ and ‘I’m On A Boat’ which was nomintaed for Grammy.
American rock legends Linkin Park’s third album ‘Minutes To Midnight’ showed a new direction for the six-piece band which was coldly received by some critics and fans. However, other fans and critics warmly embraced Linkin Park and their new sound. It’s not fair to say that this album changed Linkin Park for the better or worse because they will always remain heroes of the rock genre. 8/10.
One of hip-hop’s legends and one of rap’s newcomers teamed together to make the album ‘Mac & Devin Go To High School’. The album could easily be described as surprising but the duo have not failed to impress. Receiving mainly good reviews, it is clear that they work together well. Having collaborated with many notable artists and producers such as Mike Posner, Nottz Raw, Curren$y and many more, it comes to no surprise that the album debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The lead single from the album, ‘Young, Wild & Free’ was released on October 11th 2011.


The late 2000’s has definitely been the rise of the mixtape. As more and more artists use mixtapes to get themselves recognised and stay relevant, it can only be good news for us because the best thing about mixtapes is that they’re free! Although this now means that every Tom, Dick and Harry believes that their mixtape is the hottest thing since The Beatles. Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu a.k.a Tinie Tempah has gone from growing up in an estate in south-east London to headlining arena tours. Tinie was born in 1988 and began his journey in 2006 when his track ‘Tears’ received major airplay on Channel AKA.
Gotye, real name Wouter De Backer, is an Australian based singer/songwriter has won five ARIA Awards and was been nominated for an MTV Award for Best Asia and Pacific act. Although the 31-year-old has only been in the limelight for quite a short while due to his breakthrough track, ‘Somebody I Used To Know’, Gotye has quite a large discography. The multi-instrumentalist has independently released three albums as the drummer of the band The Basics and three independent solo albums. ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ was released on July 6th 2011 and since then has received positive comments from Lily Allen, Ashton Kutcher, Katy Perry and more.
