Electro-pop-rap duo BLACK VEGAS has definitely been at the forefront of my playlist this summer. Comparing themselves to the likes of 3OH!3, Ke$ha, and Cobra Starship, the British duo have set themselves a high standard but it is a standard that they have completely surpassed. It’s almost bizzare to hear of a pop group taking the route of an indie band but this proves to be working for the duo who have complete control over the music they make. Although they are compared to many artists, vocalist Dan and producer Chris have added something that little bit more special to their music. Their eponymous EP which was released on July 3rd 2011 consists of three incredible tracks including ‘Drop The Party’, ‘In The Backseat’ and ‘Timebomb’.The first track, ‘Drop The Party’ proves to be a definite dance tune; the title confirms this. This party tune describes the duo’s club experiences over a fist-pumping beat. ‘In The Backseat’ presents rhythmic keyboards, explosive drums and lyrics with sexual connotations, my favourite being “drop it baby, lock it yeah we’ll steam these windows up ‘cause right now we know the backseat is the only place to…”. ‘Timebomb’ comes around and it’s almost sad to think the EP is over but the duo end it on a bang. The anticipation of the “timebomb” in the verse explodes on the chorus and you cannot help but dance like nobody’s watching. I can honestly say that this duo are one of my favourites and if there is one thing I could say about the EP would be this: I wish it were longer! 9/10.
