Throw out the name Natassia Gail Zolot and no-one will know who you’re talking about. Well they’ll know her by her stage name, Kreayshawn. A member of the White Girl Mob, she flew into the music industry like a hurricane. Surrounded by controversial claims including allegations of being racist (False, to clear the air. It’s, her fellow “sister” and partner in the White Girl Mob, Vanessa ‘V-Nasty’ Reece that uses the word ‘n*gga’), her defense is that “haters are old and don’t know what swag is”.
From selling weed to get by after being left alone in Oakland at 15 to recording videos for several artists such as DB Tha General, Lil B, E.Molly and Kris Staxx, she finally pursued her musical career. She didn’t abandon her love for cinematography however shooting a video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers “The Adventures of Raindance Maggie” but the band decided to not use her work and re-shoot. But back to her music. Kreayshawn released her mixtape “Kittys x Choppas” in 2010 including hit single “Bumpin’ Bumpin’” and another favourite “Hoes On My Dick”. Her big break however came in May 2011 when she released a music video for her single “Gucci Gucci”. In its first three weeks, it gained nearly three million YouTube views, attracting the media’s attention.

As her name was blasted throughout the internet, Columbia Records were quick to sign her. Especially after several artists – Lil Wayne, Neon Hitch – remixed and covered her track. “Gucci Gucci” sparked controversy with its chorus about consumerism. Kreayshawn explained this to The Guardian saying “I mean the whole point of Gucci Gucci is not to buy, but aside from my song, the stuff on the radio is like, ‘Buy this car, look good in the videos, wear this, wear that.’ You do build up a desire. In America, look at the crime rate. Everyone wants stuff, but on a minimum wage, they can’t afford it. So they’re gonna rob and steal and kill for it. It sucks.” But the controversy didn’t stop there. Nicki Minaj fans went wild over the line “Bitch you ain’t no Barbie, I seen you work at Arby’s”. And her beef with celebrities continues with other big names such as Rick Ross and David Banner. What matters though is her music. She’s currently in process of recording her upcoming album “Just My Gucci” which will include “Gucci Gucci” and “Keep It Craccin’” (ft. V-Nasty and Snoop Dogg). She’s different, she’s herself and her music is catchy. She’s going places and the ride there should be a hella great one to watch!
