Electro-pop/rap duo 3OH!3’s third album entitled ‘Streets Of Gold’ includes singles ‘My First Kiss’, ‘Touchin’ On My’ and ‘Double Vision’. A hit-and-miss album, however, the misses aren’t far off. 7/10.
1. Beaumont
Cutting synths and the repetition of the duo’s name is the explosive yet short intro for this album.
2. I Can Do Anything
Describing their success as a spreadable “S.T.D you got back in high school” did make me chuckle. An almost self-empowerment song… of sorts.
3. My First Kiss
Featuring fellow electro-pop artist Ke$ha this track is nothing more than half-decent. Incorporating hand claps with descriptions of the events involving their lips.
4. Deja Vu
Reminiscing on experiences with the opposite sex, I must say this song is quite catchy but not the best on the album by far.
5. We Are Young
The song starts with a head bopping drum line and a guitar riff similar to Stevie Nicks’ ‘Edge Of Seventeen’ with an explosive twist in the chorus.
6. Touchin’ On My
Undeniably an incredible song. Cleverly weaving lyrics with a dance beat. “Touchin’ on my *beep* while I’m touchin’ on your *beep* you know that we are gonna *beep* cos I don’t give a *beep*”. Oh 3OH!3, you have done well. Extremely well.
7. House Party
Dirty synths and an abrasive chorus’ make up this electro-rap tune telling fellow house partiers to “get the fuck out cos there ain’t no room to be crashing on my couch”. Definitely a stand out tune.
8. R.I.P
More emotive lyrics are shown from the duo with a more electro-pop feel. A very simple song yet it works very well alongside the more sensitive lyrics.
9. I Know How To Say
All the ingredients of a more rocky tune: keys, guitars and rampant drums. Including lyrics stating “I’m never gonna stop, I’m a Rolling Stone”. Electro-rock. Another sub genre of electronica 3OH!3 can add to their list.
10. Double Vision
A very summery tune describing relationships with the opposite sex and how feelings can “change anytime”. The tune has a good hook but isn’t anything we didn’t expect; quite generic.
11. I’m Not The One
Another stand out track with more emotive lyrics, “You’re way too young to be broken, you’re way to young to fall apart”. As well as emotive lyrics, this track boasts a very impressive beat including pianos, synths and pulsating kick drums.
12. Streets Of Gold
The chorus has all the elements of a dance track but the simple verse brings about a more interesting twist. The ending has an almost euphoric feeling, a decent track I’d say.
13. See You Go
Very rhythmic track dance track showing off the duo’s vocal abilities and rapping abilities. Not one to immediately fall in love with but definitely doesn’t mean it’s not a great track.
14. Love 2012
By far the best track on the album! I cannot comprehend how impeccable the production on this track is. Although it has lyrics that some would say were ‘illuminati’ or whatever it doesn’t detract from the fact that this song is a must hear with a dirty break down at the end and the riff from ‘Beaumont’ being reintroduced.
15. Don’t Trust Me
All the basics and more for an incredible pop tune! Catchy hooks and cool rhythms is all it take to make this track such a great one.
