American indie band Foster the People exploded onto the scene in 2010 when ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ gained major viral success. Soon after the success of their hit, they signed to Columbia Records. The trio released their debut album ‘Torches’ on May 23rd 2011 and the album went to no. 8 on the US Billboard chart and no. 1 on the US Billboard Rock chart and received mainly good reviews. In 2011 the band embarked on a tour of America and Europe to promote their album and most dates were sold out. Foster the People have been catapulted into the limelight so quickly that it seems as though they may just be a one-hit wonder. Either way we can’t deny that ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ is an incredible song. The track starts with a simple rhythm of bass and drums. Synthesised vocals come in on the verse and is followed by the chorus in which the lyrics pronounce “all the kids with the pumped up kicks better run, better run faster than my bullet” The melody of the chorus is then whistled in the bridge whilst a guitar melody is introduced. The song is quite basic and calm but isn’t dreary or tedious which is what makes this song so brilliant.
